Lemongrass harvest

Lemongrass is easy to grow,
makes a tea that is good for you,
tastes delicious, and provides a fragrance
that soothes, revives and repels
mosquitoes.

It does not give these gifts kindly,
the leaf edge
does cut like a razor blade,
albeit anti bacterial, anti fungal, antiseptic.

Effective against fever, flatulence, inflammation,
cramps, stress and indigestion,
toxicity and hypertension.

  1. Wow. I knew it was good but I didn't know it had all those excellent properties.

We brew it with two lime leaves, a small stick of cinnamon, a cardamom pod, one clove, a pinch of 'mangrile'...I don't know the other name for it...it's a tiny black seed.

Or sometimes, on a hot day, just brew lemon grass [fever grass], lime leaves, sweeten with honey cool with lots of ice.

  2. Hey Zooms, I love this post! Would lemongrass only grow in tropical regions? Do you think I would have any success here in rainy Ireland? I love the last shot especially of the neatly tied lemongrass, painterly and I can nearly smell the lemony fragrance. I have quite a thing for all things lemony too, so this post really spoke to me ; ) Thanks for a lovely visit. love AKR.

  3. Lovely recipes GG, if I could just find some cardamon, we make our tea and drink it with condensed milk, naughty but nice.
AKR, I don't see why not, it would probably have to be in a pot inside though. Lovely to hear from you.

  4. Lemongrass in one of my favorite herbs. For a cool summer drink I combine lemongrass, spearmint, red rubin basil with the juice of half of a lemon. Growing up in Grenada has opened my heart and head to the medicinal properties of Lemongrass.
I add it to soups and stews.

  6. I love lemongrass and have a small patch. In Asia they serve it a a cool tea and the minced leaves are also used as part of herbal body scrubs. I also use it to season fish and curries.
