.......two in the bush.

Having
endeavoured
to
photograph
these
two
birds
for
over
a
week
now

I
finally
succeed,

only
to
fail
at
identifying
them.

Finches
perhaps,
they
are
much
bigger

and more colourful, (with blue, green wings and russet and gold, and dark coloured heads, all caught in a moment as they don't stay still for long) than our bullfinches, enjoy each others' company and flit from the grasses to the trees.

Any
suggestions
please?
Perhaps Darrel at Green Withens Birding can help.

  1. well done zooms those are

lesser antillean tanagers, which are part of the finch family.
the only place on earth they occur are st vincent and grenada,so i guess that gives you a sense of how rare these birds are!

by the way the bird in the photo is a female how appropriate!

  2. Wow, thanks for that Darrel, had a feeling that they were special, but didn't realise just how much.
I was so pleased to get these photos as, earlier in the week, I saw a hummingbird stuck in a spider's web and was so intent on releasing it, I forgot to photograph it and cursed myself for the whole day.
    Really appreciate your help. x

  5. Lucky you to see these birds! In Ohio, we get Scarlet Tanagers nesting in our woodlands in the late spring and summer.
