Parcels, Packaging and Gifts

The gathered
dried seeds of the
Bixa tree are
covered in a
red pigment
that I am
hoping to use
for an art project
in the near future.

I also love the gift
wrapping provided
by Mother Nature.

Just a little taster!

Last night
we took the bus
down to town
and spent a lovely
evening here at
the opening of the
Grenada Arts Council
Annual Open Exhibition.

There were wonderful
pieces on show and it
was inspiring to see
the diverse creativity
that exists here on
this little island.

The Turning Point

Can it be true? Can a whole year and some have passed since I was last here? One thing I notice is this place, was it not a little dark?, Time to let the sunshine in me thinks, pull back the curtains, open all windows and let the breeze pass through. Hang on to your hats if you're ready for the ride, the arrival of a new computer is indeed a joyous thing and coincides with a joyful spirit flinging me headlong towards all positive things. Thank you thank you thank you.

Coconut Beach Restaurant and Bar

It is true, Grenada is blessed with an abundance
of wonderful places to eat out, meet and make friends,
and sample delicious local and international cuisine.

But, if you want to sit with your feet in the white sand
of Grand Anse beach and enjoy a glass of your favourite
drink, whilst being serenaded by lapping susurrating surf,
as you watch for the green flash after the sun slips into the
Caribbean Sea, then there is only one place , in my opinion,
to go.

Coconut Beach, French Creole Restaurant and Bar,
Grand Anse, St. George's, is where you will have the
chance to choose from the mouthwatering menu or
simply sip a glass or two as we did, meet our good
friends Curtis and Chester and ,( not that she will
thank me for this fun but unflattering photo,) the
irrepressible, delightful owner, our good friend,
Mrs Pat Henry McIntyre.

Citronella

After weeks of unseasonal rain, the late afternoon sun kisses basking grafted limes.
The strong long shadows awake me to the fact that I have not left the house in a week.

Comfort

Four flour sacks,
lovingly hand stitched,
French seams,
bleached, washed, rinsed,
island breeze and sun dried,
bleached, washed, rinsed,
island breeze and sun dried,
bleached, washed, rinsed,
island breeze and sun dried,
bleached, washed, rinsed,
the sheet that does caress,
cools and comforts,
so recently, sweat soaked,
now, shower scrubbed, skin.
Priceless bed linen.

Mango Magic

After a morning spent weeding, there is nothing
quite like sucking on a Julie mango, in the shade.

Our day out.

Our days are usually spent
hard at work.
The garden, construction, art and craft,
together with the daily cycle
of domestic dalliance,
tells of a life that is full and fruitful,
rewarding but structured.

Which is why, when we get the chance,
we run away to spend a day
together,
just us two.
Saturday found us here, at Levera Beach,
looking out at Sugarloaf Island.
T was feeling the heat,
a momentary diversion
from our island tour,
a need for sand and sea water
and sun on my skin.
He indulged me,
stoically,
sustained by the promise of a soon to come
ice cold Carib.

Driftwood of magnitude
lay brazen
by the shore,
whilst the island chain of the Grenadines,
seemingly strung
a little closer than usual,
invited and dared,
come visit, come see.

Abundance

T returns from the garden with the fruits of our labours. We are not great meat eaters but usually treat ourselves to a little chicken something on a Sunday. Today T is cooking baked chicken.
In the photograph, clockwise from the top left hand corner, 'Common pork,' the local small leafed basil, parsley, large leafed basil, cucumber, squash, chadon beni and cabbage.

His seasoning mix is a feast for the eyes, the pungent aroma of fresh herbs pervades the senses and primes the appetite.

Whilst stealing this sumptuous image,
of chicken smothered in succulent secrets,
I spy the slivers of cinnamon spice.

And so I hope I succeed in sharing with you our special Sunday delight, that tastes of time spent under the sun, of seedlings tenderly nurtured, of showers as blessings, of love and joy and the fulfillment of wishes.

T's baked chicken with rice, sweet blugga plantain, salad and squash.

Transformation

On
waking,
feeling
fractious,
fickle
and
fraught,
the
day
doomed
to
failure,
when T brought breakfast of French Cachou, fresh from the tree.
Food, inspiration and love, on a plate. xxx

Unexpected pleasures

It isn't always possible to buy the things you may need or want here. For example, last week onions were 'scarce', next week it could be brown sugar or, God forbid, my favourite red wine. Today, however, was one of those special days, when the much used phrase here "if you see it, buy it" - in other words, because it won't be there next week, was particularly apt!
I couldn't resist!
